A Book by Gabriel Montague
Born from the silence of the Sahara Desert ~ a collection of short parables on life, meaning, inner peace, and the treasure hidden within us all.
"The meaning of life is found in The Quest itself ~ in the search, not the destination."~ The Quest, Epilogue
About the Book
A young man ventured deep into the Sahara ~ no Arabic, no map, little money ~ and found something he did not expect: stillness. In that stillness, stories came. Parables of life and meaning, arriving in the late hours of the night and the quiet before dawn.
He never thought of them as his. They were gifts from the desert. Over years and across continents, he gathered them into what became The Quest ~ a secret map through life, a search for inner peace and happiness.
Now shared, the quest continues with whoever chooses to walk it.
Structure
Each path holds a different dimension of the inner journey ~ told through parables that are simple in form and boundless in meaning.
Sample Parable
There was an old man who sat on a bench for many hours each day, looking over at the docks on the other side of the bay. He would sit and feed the pigeons. People always told him he should do something with his life and go see the town on the other side.
He eventually crossed the bridge. He was offered gold. He found fame in a vision of his future self. Yet that future man had no compassion. That man would never sit down to feed the pigeons.
He turned around. He walked back across the bridge and sat at his bench.
Whenever someone told him, "You should do something with your life," the man simply smiled and replied, "I already am. I am feeding the pigeons."
